Prerequisites

  • Einführung in die Administration von Red Hat Linux (033) or equivalent experience such as essential system administration tasks including basic installation, package management, and user management procedures.
  • Before enrolling this course, it is recommend that students check their experience level by taking a free online pre-assessment questionnaire.

Course Objectives

A Linux system administrator who has proven competency by passing the RHCT Exam, a realistic performance-based lab exam that tests his/her actual ability to install, configure, and attach a new Red Hat Linux system to an existing production network.

Course Content

The Red Hat Linux System Administration (RH133) week-long course provides intensive system administration training enabling participates to develop the skills they need to effectively administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Participants learn to properly manage a Linux workstation or server, including installation and configuration of local components and services as well as connections to existing network services.

This course includes a Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT) exam on the final day of the course. An RHCT certification is earned when an IT professional demonstrates the core system administration skills common to Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments. RHCT is an appropriate certification for system administrators and professionals in a wide variety of related roles, including database administrators, developers, and support technicians.

Unit1 - Administrative Access
  • Configure and access various consoles directly, remotely with ssh, and with virt-manager.
  • Configure privilege escalation with sudo.
Unit2 - Package Management
  • Manage software on system using yum, Red Hat Network, and rpm.
Unit3 - System Services and Security
  • Configure and manage system logging, time synchronization, printers, and task automation.
  • Troubleshoot SELinux.
Unit4 - System Initialization
  • Define boot process, recover system, and manage service startup.
Unit5 - Kernel Monitoring and Configuration
  • Explore kernel modules and variants, tune kernel parameters, manage devices, and monitor processes and resources.
Unit6 - Network Configuration
  • Configure dynamic and static network settings for IPv4 and filter packets.
Unit7 - Filesystem Administration
  • Review filesystem management concepts, removable media and configure NFS shares with autofs.
Unit8 - Additional Storage
  • Expand storage by adding new filesystems and swap space.
Unit9 - User Administration
  • Create, modify and delete users, groups, and policy.
  • Protect users and groups with quotas.
Unit10 - Filesystems for Group Collaboration
  • Establish collaborative group directories.
  • Protect users and groups with ACLs.
Unit11 - Centralized User Administration
  • Revisit user administration by connecting to network directory services like NIS and LDAP.
Unit12 - Software RAID
  • Manage filesystems using Software RAID and recover an array.
Unit13 - Logical Volume Management
  • Manage filesystems using Logical Volume Management.
  • Resize filesystems and protect them with LVM Snapshots.
Unit14 - Virtualization and Automated Installation
  • Perform automated installations of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Create para-virtualized user domains in Xen.
Unit15 - Troubleshooting with Rescue Mode
  • Explore troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Utilize the rescue environment of anaconda.
