VBlock 300 Series Initialization, Deployment and Management Course Description (VCE-1CN-EMCVBOPSNX)

 

Who should attend

This course is intended for individuals who will be required to deploy, manage or troubleshoot a Vblock 300 with the native element management software.

Prerequisites

To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student must have a suitable knowledgebase/skill set. The student must have an understanding of:

  • System administration (Windows®, Linux, User administration, connectivity administration)
  • Server virtualization with VMware vSphere, including VMware over NFS Solutions
  • VNX architecture and Unisphere capabilities
  • Fibre Channel, iSCSI and NFS protocols
  • PowerPath

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the components that comprise a Vblock 300
  • Discuss the initialization tasks and identify the necessary environmental configuration data prerequisites for Vblock 300 deployment
  • Discuss the SAN interconnect configuration, both the Fibre Channel and IP based interconnects, for Vblock 300 initialization
  • Describe the basic storage requirements and management interfaces for the Vblock 300 initialization
  • Create and deploy
    • Pools, Policies, Simple Cisco UCS Service Profile Templates, Service Profiles, RBAC Admin user profile, Sub-organization hierarchy
    • VNX Fibre Channel boot LUNs for Vblock initialization
    • VNX NFS file systems and exports for NFS datastores
    • iSCSI connectivity and targets for iSCSI datastores
    • VMware ESX and ESXi instances to Cisco UCS blades in a Fibre Channel and local boot configuration
  • Perform simple management and monitoring functions for the Vblock 300 using:
    • Unisphere
    • UCSM (Cisco UCS Manager)
    • ViClient

Course Content

This course will provide a comprehensive hands-on experience with the Vblock™ 300 Series platform. Vblock platform architecture, fundamental initialization, deployment and management tasks will be discussed. Lab exercises will guide the participants through the pertinent steps involved and the necessary tasks to bring a Vblock 300 into production.
