Mainframe Business Continuity – SRDF/Star Solutions (MFSTAR)
Who should attend
This course is intended for any person who will:
- Manage and administrate Symmetrix-based STAR data replication using the SRDF suite of products in z/OS environments.
- Architect and position mainframe STAR business continuity customer solutions using EMC software applications.
Prerequisites
To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student must have a suitable knowledgebase/skill set. The student must have an understanding of:
- z/OS operating environment; ability to utilize TSO, SDSF and ISPF while performing online hands-on labs
- Symmetrix architecture, concepts, and theory of operations
- SRDF architecture, concepts, and theory of operations
- Existing hands-on experience with EMC’s host based software solutions
A list of specific prerequisite courses can be found in EMC Education Services Learning Management System.
Course Objectives
This specialization level course provides participants with lecture and hands-on experience in building EMC’s Concurrent and Cascaded STAR Replication Solution and performing various STAR Recovery scenarios in a z/OS environment. This course expands on a students existing knowledge of ResourcePak Base, Host Component, Consistency Groups and introduces the STAR Recovery Panels. The course reviews business continuity considerations and their practical applications for a STAR configuration.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Describe and demonstrate the benefits, architecture and management of Concurrent and Cascaded STAR in a z/OS environment
- Utilize the following EMC mainframe products to build, operate, failover and failback STAR solutions:
- SRDF/S, SRDF/A and MSC
- Resource Pak Base (SCF)
- SRDF Host Component
- SRDF Consistency Group
- Describe the architecture and usage of Automated recovery operations using EMCSTAR1
