SQL Server Integration with Symmetrix (SSSMET)

This course is intended for System administrators, Database Administrators, and EMC Architects and Implementers who specialize in SQL Server 2005 infrastructures on a Symmetrix/DMX storage platform.

To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student must have a suitable knowledgebase/skill set. The student must have an understanding of

• Symmetrix Business Continuity (or strong demonstrated competence in using TimeFinder and SRDF in a Windows environment)
• Replication Manager Overview (or basic knowledge of Replication Manager)
• A functional knowledge of the SQL Server 2005 architecture
• A comprehensive understanding of the Windows Server platform

Learn and perform SQL Server 2005 backup and restores using TimeFinder, SRDF and Replication Manager technologies. Discuss database layout for performance and Volume Shadow Copy Service support for SQL Server 2005. Migrate a SQL Server instance on a Windows 2003 platform to a Symmetrix/DMX infrastructure. Understand the various configurations available to prepare for a disaster recovery of a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 using EMC’s TF/SIM and Replication Manager 5.0 applications This Expert level course supports the EMC Proven Professional Program – Business Continuity Specialty Tracks.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

• Configure a SQL Server 2005 database environment to run on a Symmetrix/DMX storage array
• Install, configure, and execute backups using Solutions Enabler 6.4, Database SRM in a Symmetrix/DMX environment
• Install, configure, and execute backups using the TimeFinder SQL Server Integration Module (TF/SIM) on in a Symmetrix/DMX platform
• Install an ERM client, configure, and execute backups using EMC Replication Manager on a Symmetrix/DMX platform
• Perform recovery from an SQL Server backup host utilizing SRDF and Business Continuance Volumes
