ControlCenter StorageScope Reporting Workshop (CCSTSWSP)
Zielgruppe
This course is intended for anyone who needs to create complex reports based on the StorageScope schema using StorageScope Query Builder or an external reporting tool.
Voraussetzungen
To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student must have a suitable knowledgebase/skill set. The student must have a thorough understanding of StorageScope and EMC Storage Allocation terminology. Knowledge of relational databases and the joining of database tables will also be very helpful. Training in the use of reporting tools is not included in this course. Specifically, basic Query Builder interface training is not included in this course. Students wishing to create reports using one of these tools should attend appropriate additional training. A list of specific prerequisite courses can be found in EMC Education Services Learning Management System.
Kursziele
In this course, students will learn to write effective reports using the EMC ControlCenter
6.1 StorageScope Repository. Lecture will focus on the commonly-used tables that contain
properties, trend, group, and relationship data. Students will learn how to join and filter
these tables to create useful results, and how to avoid schema pitfalls. By the conclusion of
this class, students should be able to research the StorageScope documentation and use
Query Builder to investigate their environment’s data to develop a reporting solution.
Through extensive self-directed exercises, students will use the concepts they learned in
lecture to create practical reports. Students can perform exercises using a variety of tools:
StorageScope Query Builder, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Query, Microsoft Access, and
Microsoft Excel. Students are encouraged to bring real-world reporting requirements with
them to class to be used as examples.
Several advanced topics concerning the StorageScope architecture will also be presented,
including using Query Builder to create SQL code for Snapshots and other reporting tools,
adding RPT files to the StorageScope reporting server, and effects of File Level Collection
settings on the schema.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Use the StorageScope documentation to locate the tables and columns needed to produce a report.
- Join tables to show trend data, object groups, and data path relations.
- Query the StorageScope Repository data using Query Builder, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Query, Microsoft Access, or Microsoft Excel.
- Use Query Builder to prototype SQL code for use in Snapshots or Reports.
- Use Crystal Reports Developer to create RPT files that can be included in the StorageScope reporting server.

Modules
These modules are designed to support the course objectives. The following
modules are included in this course:
- StorageScope Architecture
- Properties tables
- Trend tables
- Group tables
- Relationship tables
Labs
Labs reinforce the information you have been taught. Most labs in this course are
open-ended investigations into the schema content. The labs for this course
include:
- Properties tables, including object to sub-object relations
- Trend tables, including trend date filtering and displaying the latest trend values
- Group tables, including group membership display and group summary tables
- Relationship tables, including data path relationships, and replica relationships
Assessments
Assessments validate that you have learned the knowledge or skills presented
during a learning experience. In this course, the instructor will monitor and assist
with the student’s lab exercises, and will review the results.
